What's In A Name?

My husband and I had thought of names for our new little one quite a lot in the last year. Searching baby name sites, writing lists, comparing names much like expecting parents. We like to choose a nickname and then work to find what that name would be in a longer form. Our last dog's name was Winnie, we were originally thinking we were going to be getting a boy and name it Winchester after my favourite MASH character Charles Emerson Winchester the Third. When she ended up being a girl we thought we could still make it work and called her Winifred. Though I have to admit she rarely heard the long form and simply became Winnie.

I was leaning towards names like Gertrude (Gertie for short) but it didn't click. I knew when I heard the right name it would just be perfect, so we kept searching. My husband Marc actually came up with the name that we are going to use for this puppy. We chose Pennie. Before we knew we could get a girl we had a name for each it was either Penelope or Pennington Bear. We are still not sure if Pennie or Penelope will be used more but are going to start with Penelope and see how it goes. All her medical records, identification tags and pet insurance will stay Penelope.

Everyone at work was asking how we came up the name, quoting what the name meant "weaver", and its relation to Greek Mythology. Actually its from an adorable anime hamster from the series Hamtaro. You should see people's expressions when you tell them its an anime hamster, its priceless. Just makes me love the name that much more!

4 more days until Penelope comes home. (I am so excited!)
